The board of trustees for the Jacksonville Independent School District in Texas named Sara Gill as the lone finalist for superintendent, the Jacksonville Progress reported.

The unanimous vote, occurring Tuesday, Nov. 3, begins the 21-day waiting period mandated by state law, after which trustees may consider final employment action, according to the report. Gill will replace Brad Stewart, who is retiring in December.

Gill, who has served as deputy superintendent the last two years, has spent her entire career within the Jacksonville school district, the newspaper reported. Her roles have included elementary teacher, principal, director of special education and associate superintendent of student services.

“Jacksonville ISD has been my professional home for 29 years, and over that time, it has become so much more than a place of employment,” Gill said.

Gill holds a bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from The University of Texas at Tyler, according to the report.
