Status: source-checked.

Wisconsin reported its first measles death since 1990, an infant linked to an outbreak in the state’s southwest, and Pennsylvania confirmed its sixth measles death, Straight Arrow News reported Friday.

The deaths bring the national toll to eight this year, the highest since 1991. The CDC has confirmed more than 5,800 cases so far this year, more than double last year’s total.

Health experts cite declining vaccination rates as a major driver of the outbreak.
