An estimated 15.4 million people in Sudan need emergency shelter and household supplies, the United Nations said Nov. 6, citing its refugee and migration agencies.

Millions of people displaced by Sudan’s war risk being left without shelter as funding shortages threaten to deplete emergency stocks, the UN refugee agency and the International Organization for Migration warned Nov. 6.

An estimated 15.4 million people across Sudan urgently need emergency shelter and household items, but funding shortfalls mean agencies can reach only 10% of them, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said. So far, 936,000 people have been helped.

Continued fighting and drone attacks are driving further displacement and restricting operations, while damaged infrastructure hampers the movement of supplies, according to the agencies. Earlier in the week, the UN said at least 25 drone strikes had hit power and fuel infrastructure across 11 Sudanese states in two weeks.

Sudan’s 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan seeks $2.9 billion to assist 20 million of the 33 million people in need, but it is only about 47% funded, Dujarric said, forcing agencies to hold back assistance.
